Let’s face it; canteen refreshments in the workplace can be a bit of a culinary disappointment, with the quality and choice of snacks on offer often dependent on what time employees’ breaks are, and how fast they can get in the meal queue.

It’s also hardly a relaxing experience when you spend most of your break rushing to get something good to eat before heading back to work, or waiting in line just to get the last stale sandwich in the vending machine. Yet, many workers are faced with this sad scenario everyday.

Luckily, for the employees of over twenty large corporations in the UK this is no longer an issue. Because these companies have all recently installed a touch screen refreshment solution that provides staff with bespoke, fresh meals that can be pre-ordered, paid for and delivered to their desired location within the workplace, at the time of their choice.

Protouch was approached by Lyons Group, the market leader in the provision of total cashless and vending solutions within the UK, to produce a complete payment system that combines touch screen technology with both cashless and cash payment options to create a more effective way of delivering corporate refreshments.

Protouch answered the call with its Zurich 8000, a multi-functional designer kiosk, and the Zurich wall, a designer wall-hanging kiosk. Both units are ergonomically designed and manufactured using only the best components – including note, coin and Chip & PIN payment systems, a printer and an RFID contactless card reader.

The touch screen technology allows users to add credit to individual employee RFID contactless cards via the touch screen kiosk, using its note, coin or Chip & PIN options. Then on the same kiosk, using their contactless card, users can pre-order bespoke refreshments and choose which vending machine they wish their selection to be delivered to, as and when.

The system uses an on-screen menu and ordering service that allows users to select exactly what they wish to eat and drink, without being limited to what’s left. So, if ordering a sandwich, for example, the user can select their choice of filling and choose whether they would like it to come on brown or white bread, with or without butter, mayo, etc. The order is then stored on the card and sent to the kitchen where it is prepared as requested and delivered to the elected vending machine. When it’s time for the employee to collect their order they simply go to the vending machine in question, where it reads their card and dispenses their item to them freshly made.

This refreshment solution offers great benefits to both employer and employee, as it comes at no additional cost to the employer and brings choice and flexibility into the workplace, satisfying employees’ needs for suitable refreshments with just-in-time delivery, using a convenient and hygienic system.

Tom Quarry, managing director of Protouch said: “Our touch screens are fast, accurate and easy to use; they have been installed in over 15,000 retail and other commercial environments in the UK and are constantly in demand. We are delighted that we have been able to bring touch screen solutions into the corporate market and enhance refreshment service in the workplace, which will no doubt raise staff morale and improve performance.”

Protouch has rapidly become established as one of Europe’s leading specialist suppliers of touch screen equipment including POS/POI, kiosks and monitors, EPOS sales systems and large format, interactive signage for both indoor and outdoor use. In addition to corporate, they also supply to retail and commercial, hospitality and leisure, museum, government, military, broadcasting, medical, PR/promotions and exhibitions. They can provide solutions for trade, AV dealers and resellers, software consultants seeking an integrated solution or corporate clients looking for a ground up, bespoke system.

Protouch and Lyons Group now look forward to rolling out the refreshment solutions further to additional corporations in the United Kingdom.
