Direct thermal paper printing technology has emerged to be the most favoured technology for self-service applications

Direct thermal paper printing technology has emerged to be the most favoured technology for self-service applications, thanks to its virtually noiseless operation, reliability, ease of handling and low operating costs. Add to this the fact that you need no other consumables besides the paper (i.e. no toner, ink, solvents, etc.) and it’s easy to see why it has found such favour in unattended applications around the world. But the key to the perfect result is to select the best paper.

There are thousands of different papers to select from in the thermal paper industry. Keeping in mind that such papers must meet the requirements of the printing shops (pre-print), the thermal printer itself and also the usage site including the specific requirements of the end user, selecting paper based on only one of these criteria, such as price, seldom pans out as the best solution and may eventually even jeopardise the entire kiosk system.
Each application also has its own special requirements for the kioskpaper. At airports, for example,self-service terminals produce airline tickets with special 2-D barcodes other information in fine print, which must be perfectly legible for the automatic reader at the gate as it ultimately determines the traveller’s access to their aeroplane. Top Coat thermal papers are perfect for this purpose, as well as for account statements issued by banks, wher eonly carefully tested and certified thermal papers are approved. As a rule, before approval the papers are subjected to intensive kilometric performance testing (up to 100 km and more) at the OEM.

The specially developed formulas of thermoscript products ensure flawless performance of the print-head by excluding flaws due to the paper. The OEM approval given by numerous leading print head manufacturers based on test runs of up to 150 km underscores the outstanding product quality of Mitsubishi HiTec thermal papers. Undesirable print-head fouling leading to insufficient energy transfer, poor printing or even printer failure is now a thing of the past.
