Applied Logic

With their new MPC20 and MPC21 Microspace-PCs, Swiss-based Digital-Logic is now offering the smallest personal computers based on the AMD Geode LX800 processor (500MHz), measuring just 160mmW x 105mmD x 27mmH. Main features include 100/10Base-T-Ethernet LAN ports, four USB 2.0 interfaces, sound, VGA and expansion by MiniPCI (WLAN) and PCI/104 (CAN, COM and field bus). A CompactFlash disk or optional 40MB 2.5” hard disk serve as boot media.

The MPC20/21 may be used stand-alone, wall mounted or mounted on a DIN-Rail. Both systems have no cooling fan; instead they rely solely on passive cooling techniquesm making them ideal for cost-effective long-term operation in industrial and commercial applications. Typical applications are POI/POS, firewall, embedded control, security, and HMI.

The new mini systems are based on Digital-Logic’s new 3.5” MSB800L and MSB800 (MPC21) single board computers, which provide all common PC interfaces. The Geode CS5536 is used as a chip set, and the main memory can be equipped with up to 1GB DDR RAM. For display, the systems use the video controller integrated within the Geode processor, with up to 32MB VRAM and VGA resolutions up to 1920 x 1440 pixels and 85Hz. The video input supports resolution of up to 704 x 288 pixels with 15 frames per second, and interfacing is via coax connection.

The MPC20/21s run with all PC-compatible operating systems, and work with all application software written for PCs. They are supplied by a voltage of 10V to 30V DC, and so can be used in switch cabinets, as well as in battery-powered systems. For connection to the supply voltage, a 110/240V power supply adapter is available. Designed for low power consumption (typically 8 watts), the board operates within the temperature range of 0°C to +60°C, although the systems are available for an extended operating temperature range of –40°C to +70°C on request.
