Bespoke Mini Kiosks
Make Mine a Mini
In today’s retail environment ‘space is still the final frontier’, and with statistical proof that in-store advertising does result in increased sales and reduced marketing campaign costs, many retail outlets are exploring the potential of mini kiosk solutions. Mini kiosks, whether wall, shelf or floor mounted resolve the space issues, but their design and integration raise a different set of problems for both the marketing teams and the kiosk builder.
Review Display Systems Ltd designs and manufactures bespoke kiosk solutions for specialist applications, tailoring each product to the needs of the marketing team in form and function, whilst still incorporating the latest technologies to ensure product reliability and performance.Heat is a major issue in mini kiosk design and has a direct effect on the reliability of a system. Because of the size constraints in small enclosures, the traditional modular approach of a PC and display monitor in a housing has to be dropped in favour of a design incorporating all the major parts as components of one sub-chassis.
RDS incorporates a range of industrial motherboard solutions ideally suited to compact kiosks in their designs. These small, highly-integrated boards offer fanless operation through low power requirements and have a comprehensive feature set including on-board LCD driver, Ethernet, sound and multi I/O options, all packaged in the size of a 3.5 inch hard drive.
The small display needs to give a big visual impact, so normally a quality industrial TFT panel such as those produced by NEC or Optrex are incorporated. Using the latest CCFL backlight design the screen brightness has been pushed up to 650cd/m and contrast to 600:1, three times as bright as a laptop screen, ideal for attracting customers with punchy advertising video. For applications where the kiosk is to be sighted in high ambient light, new display technologies such as NEC’s NLT or Optrex’s AR display are used. Both of these allow the display to be read in sunlight, and both tolerate operation at higher temperatures than normal TFT panels. For applications such as catalogue viewing stations, Optrex NCM technology panels feature a drive technology that ensures colour rendition on screen is true to life.
RDS systems utilize the latest touch technologies incorporating AR filters to improve readability in high ambient conditions and scratch resistant, field replaceable, films to protect the screen.
