Mitsubishi Introduces Compact Photo Printers

At Photokina 2010, Mitsubishi Electric presented its new range of compact instant printer for professional photo systems.
 
The first model in the new range, the CP-D70, has is 446 mm in depth, 170 mm in height and has a breadth of 275 mm. This means that it requires 40% of the volume of space of a comparable previous model.
 
The second model, the CP-D707, is a double-deck printer for parallel operation. With otherwise identical outer dimensions, this model is twice the height of the first model, at 340 mm. However, manufacturers state that it still has less total volume than comparable single models in this performance category.
 
The new printer series was especially developed for shop rooms in which the acquisition of a photo system or printer had been postponed up to now due to lack of space.
 
Both models are space-saving front-loaders. Although their dimensions are small, the minis among the photo printers can still hold substantial volumes of photo paper; enough, for example, for about 400 or 800 prints (dependent on the model) in the 10 x 15 cm format. According to Mitsubishi Electric, no other photo printer of this size can currently be filled with two different types of paper and thus produce three different formats; it is an exclusive feature of the 'double-decker' CP-D707. The print speed in parallel operation with this model is less than six seconds per photo in the format 10 x 15 cm.
 
Manufacturers promise that no compromises have to be made in terms ofquality or performance in order to achieve the low dimensions. They explain that a new image processing algorithm for a particularly natural sharpness is used, thus further improving the output quality of photos. The printer head resolution is 300 dpi. With the output formats the range extends from 10 x 15 cm to 15 x 20 cm.
 
Further special features are the dust-proof housing design, which prevents penetration of particles of dirt, and the special cooling system, whichprotects the new printer from overheating even with a high throughput.
 
The printer also operates using the environmentally-friendly thermal sublimation method which works completely without chemistry. A special Eco idle mode provides for additional energy savings, with a current consumption of below one Watt. The model automatically switches over to this mode from the standard stand-by mode after a certain period of inactivity. The printer is immediately ready for use again as soon as a USB command is received.

In this too we are well-placed”, explained Lars Dörholt, Deputy Division Manager VIS of Mitsubishi Electric Europe Germany.
 
Also being showcased at the Mitsubishi stand at Photokina were uncomplicated solutions for self-service photo kiosks, to be used by the customer. This included the Easyphoto system. The company is also exploring ways in which additional increases in turnover can be achieved through the sale of added value products like calendars. They have now made the accessory assortment more attractive through the inclusion of photo albums in a new look and through photo boxes.
