A Good Source of Fibre
Belgium-based human-machine-interface manufacturer Clicktouch is helping customers who are looking for a solid touchscreen. The company’s capacitive touch screens can be implemented behind a thick overlay such as glass, or a plastic overlay. The touchscreen size is up to 12.1" and is suitable for multigesture detection, such as rotate, zoom, squeeze and proximity, with a fast response.
The front plates can be customised with graphics and different kinds of coatings. The company states that this solution is state of the art. It is equiped with antivandal defences and is very easy to clean, since there are no edges and the overlay can handle cleaning products. A membrane keyboard can be integrated around it with keys equiped with tactile feedback. LEDs and insert labels can also be integrated.
The keyboard can be backlit using glass fibres, which offer an alternative to EL-lamps. These illuminate individual keys or areas and can be used with multiple Clicktouch technologies in addition to membrane keyboards, including the touch screens themselves.
The fibres are made of woven or polished glass, and transmit light from LEDs. They can be customised to fit the requested size. Lifespan depends only on the LEDs. When the LEDs stop working, they can be replaced without affecting any of the other equipment. The use of LEDs also means power consumption is low.
The company’s complete offering is contained in one unit, mounted on a carrier plate. This means it should be easy for the customer to integrate into their application and connect it to their electronics.
