Citizen SDK
A new range of Software Development Kits or “devkits” are now available for a wide range of mobile operating systems to enable printing functions for Citizen’s range of portable and mobile printers.

The SDKs are provided by Citizen for mobile OS such as Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Symbian, These allow relatively inexpensive mobile devices to be deployed in work-related functions to enhance the capability and flexibility of the printers. Currently, iOS devices such as the iPhone are locked by Apple's design making Bluetooth communication more complex but Citizen is working with a number of VARs to assist in additional development routes.

Nowadays, mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets are commonplace and we place significant emphasis on their use in our daily lives. However, until now, the use of generic mobile devices for use in the working environment has not reached its full potential due to lack of crucial functions such as restricted access to printers.

The introduction of the new SDK for compact, mobile equipment allows for the creation of multi-platform applications that can now be integrated into mobile data capture and output systems, using standard wireless communication or USB connections to other equipment such as printers.

The new SDK now provides integration with the company’s portable and mobile printer range, allowing businesses to enjoy the increased flexibility of using inexpensive off-the-shelf mobile devices. This should offer wider scope to businesses, particularly smaller, faster paced businesses or those where work is carried out on the move such as retail, logistics and the restaurant sectors.
