DVD Rental Goes Mobile
The redbox Android app allows users to find nearby redbox kiosk locations, browse titles with box art and reserve movies through their mobile devices.
The iPhone app has been available since December 2009, but the company has enhanced the app to provide additional content and faster connection speeds.
The company’s website has also had a major makeover, designed to make it easier for visitors to browse and reserve the latest movies online. Customers can now reserve up to five movies at a time for pickup at their local redbox kiosks.
Each fully-automated kiosk holds 630 discs, representing up to 200 titles. Consumers use a touch screen to select their favorite movies, swipe a valid credit or debit card and can then go and watch their movie.
“The free redbox Android app and upgraded iPhone app provide mobile users with an interactive portal to view and rent new release movies from any of our more than 26,000 locations nationwide,” said Gary Cohen, senior vice president of marketing and customer experience, redbox. “Our online and mobile tools instantly connect consumers to our retail locations nationwide, delivering real-time access to inventory at any location from virtually anywhere.”
