KIOSK EUROPE at EuroCIS 2006
EuroCIS 2006, the international trade fair for communications, information and security technology in retail, drew to a close in Düsseldorf on the 16th of February. The success of the fair was reflected by its attendance figures: EuroCIS 2006 saw 181 exhibitors from 14 nations showcasing their latest products and services. All in all, 5,100 international experts from all segments of retail traveled to the Rhine this year – about 600 more visitors than registered at the previous event in 2003.

At this year’s EuroCIS, many exhibitors’ presentations focused on POS technology and check-out solutions – the segment expected to prompt most innovations over the next few years. The trend at this year’s show seemed to lean toward shoppers’ auto-check-out and RVMs – reverse vending machines that have been in great demand recently, as individual store solutions for returnable bottles are to be abolished from 1st May across Germany.

Also very well attended was the EuroCIS Exhibitor Forum, which offered hands-on talks and tips for commercial success amidst the hustle and bustle of the fair. For the first time, all lectures offered simultaneous translation – a move that appeared very well received by international visitors. The two accompanying congresses, the ‘Innovationstag Handel’ and the ‘Global Retail Technology Forum’, also met with plenty of approval. The next EuroCIS will be held from 27th February to 1st March 2007, again in Düsseldorf.

Usability Workshop @ KEX 2012

Handspiel
What can self-service terminals learn from the success of the iPad? The Usability Expert Workshop will explore ways of developing self-service solutions capable of inspiring the same fanatical reaction as Apple’s iconic product. On the 7th of March this year, hundreds of people were out on the streets, waiting to be amongst the first to get their hands on the latest iPad iteration. They had camped out all night with their thermoses in the freezing cold. Why are so many people willing to do this in front of every Apple store, but not for a new check-in terminal at the airport, train station, or shopping mall? What’s behind the buzz, and how can we encourage a similar reaction to self-service solutions? Through expert contributions and together with you, we will seek to answer these questions and explore future ways to get there. KIOSK EUROPE and Handspiel will present the Usability Expert Workshop as part of KIOSK EUROPE EXPO 2012, which runs from 12-13 June. The Usability Workshop will take place on Wednesday, 13th June from 10:30-13:30. Numbers are limited, so secure your place now by booking online at www.kioskeurope-expo.com
