Print on the Go
New handheld printer can be used with iPads
The GeBE-Flash for iOS is a mobile thermal printer with on board Bluetooth interface prints from an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad App. This allows important data to be put on paper within seconds - even in situations where a standard WLAN infrastructure is missing, or where a line of sight for infrared transmission is blocked.
Time pressure is an ever-present factor in medical and care occupations. An ever increasing flood of data has to be interpreted. Software for various applications for use on mobile devices is already available. Printing from those apps and via Bluetooth saves time. This has only become possible with the launch of the new printer.
This energy efficient printer was specifically developed for such Apps and is certified by Apple. It prints text, graphics and bar codes quickly and in high resolution on 58 mm wide paper. Easyloading technology has been developed so that changing paper should be quick and straightforward.
The device weighs in at 300g and fits in any gown when not in use.
Alternatively, the manufacturer offers an optional belt pouch, meaning that the unit can be kept on the person when both hands are needed.
Another potential application is in parking management. In many areas, traffic wardens already capture data electronically, for instance by using an Apple iPhone, which is comparatively inexpensive and easy to operate. User specific data could be sent directly to central administration. However, printing data on-site has only become possible with the new printer. The device prints tickets in high resolution on 58mm paper, so they can go right on windshields.
The printer has a host of other potential applications, such as in public transport, gastronomy and logistics.

Usability Workshop @ KEX 2012
What can self-service terminals learn from the success of the iPad? The Usability Expert Workshop will explore ways of developing self-service solutions capable of inspiring the same fanatical reaction as Apple’s iconic product. On the 7th of March this year, hundreds of people were out on the streets, waiting to be amongst the first to get their hands on the latest iPad iteration. They had camped out all night with their thermoses in the freezing cold. Why are so many people willing to do this in front of every Apple store, but not for a new check-in terminal at the airport, train station, or shopping mall? What’s behind the buzz, and how can we encourage a similar reaction to self-service solutions? Through expert contributions and together with you, we will seek to answer these questions and explore future ways to get there. KIOSK EUROPE and Handspiel will present the Usability Expert Workshop as part of KIOSK EUROPE EXPO 2012, which runs from 12-13 June. The Usability Workshop will take place on Wednesday, 13th June from 10:30-13:30. Numbers are limited, so secure your place now by booking online at www.kioskeurope-expo.com
