Gemalto NFC
Gemalto is working with PTK Centertel, an Orange group affiliate, todeploy the largest NFC program in Poland, with a commercial offer targeting several thousand users. The company states that this new initiative reinforces its active role in Orange Group’s NFC expansion strategy, with the Poland deployment following deployments in the UK and France.

This program, the first commercial NFC pilot in the country, allows PTK Centertel’s customers to use their mobile phone to pay for goods and services securely at a wave of their handset. Poland has a well established contactless infrastructure of approximately 35,000 acceptance points, notably in fast food restaurants, cinemas, supermarkets and numerous retailers.

Gemalto provided an end-to-end solution that includes NFC software and user interface applications securely embedded on an NFC SIM, and the Trusted Service Management (TSM) services. PTK Centertel and its partnering bank have entrusted Gemalto with the operation of the TSM platform, to securely personalise and manage the payment application in the device over the air.

Krzysztof Sieczkowski, Product and Content Development Director, PTK Centertel, commented, “With a number of large-scale rollouts around the world, Gemalto is definitely the trusted reference for mobile NFC implementation. We need a complete solution to speed up our time-to-market, and leverage the strong contactless payment network already existing in Poland to make our consumer the first to benefit from the NFC experience.”

Jean-Claude Deturche, senior vice-president of mobile financial solutions at Gemalto, added, “Gemalto is committed to assisting Orange Group with its NFC strategy with best-in-class technology and services for mobile contactless payments. We have proven our success in France and the UK, and in Poland too our expertise in interconnecting all players in the NFC ecosystem, including the mobile operators, financial institutions and transit companies, will greatly facilitate the delivery of a superior user experience.”

Usability Workshop @ KEX 2012

Handspiel
What can self-service terminals learn from the success of the iPad? The Usability Expert Workshop will explore ways of developing self-service solutions capable of inspiring the same fanatical reaction as Apple’s iconic product. On the 7th of March this year, hundreds of people were out on the streets, waiting to be amongst the first to get their hands on the latest iPad iteration. They had camped out all night with their thermoses in the freezing cold. Why are so many people willing to do this in front of every Apple store, but not for a new check-in terminal at the airport, train station, or shopping mall? What’s behind the buzz, and how can we encourage a similar reaction to self-service solutions? Through expert contributions and together with you, we will seek to answer these questions and explore future ways to get there. KIOSK EUROPE and Handspiel will present the Usability Expert Workshop as part of KIOSK EUROPE EXPO 2012, which runs from 12-13 June. The Usability Workshop will take place on Wednesday, 13th June from 10:30-13:30. Numbers are limited, so secure your place now by booking online at www.kioskeurope-expo.com
