One of the busiest shopping malls in Estonia introduced 3D Wayfinder to help its visitors find their way through the 30 000 sqm large premises.

Viru Center is located at the very heart of Tallinn, next to the medieval Old Town. Viru is loved by tourists and it boasts the highest visitor numbers in the capital. The mall is complex with five floors, a car park, bus terminal and the large atrium – which is a popular meeting place in the sunny afternoons.
 
The decision to implement some kind of interactive solution was made back in 2010, but after seeing the 3D Wayfinder, the mall’s decision was made far easier.
 
3D content of the mall was created using CAD files. 3D Wayfinder enables the mall to manage its residents’ data and advertisement banners online.
 

3D Wayfinder is situated beside each entrance and gateway on 63" and 46" touch screen custom-made kiosks produced by ML Novator, with the kiosk casing purposefully set in stainless steel with no specific design to help blend into the mall’s interior.
 

Deploying the 3D Wayfinder has helped the mall in many ways. First it helped people to find their route to shops and cafes. Then there is the advantage of being able to include advertisement banners which are promoting the offerings of the 100+ mall tenants. And finally bringing in such a novel solution shows innovativeness, helping to bring customers to the centre.

Usability Workshop @ KEX 2012

What can self-service terminals learn from the success of the iPad? The Usability Expert Workshop will explore ways of developing self-service solutions capable of inspiring the same fanatical reaction as Apple’s iconic product. On the 7th of March this year, hundreds of people were out on the streets, waiting to be amongst the first to get their hands on the latest iPad iteration. They had camped out all night with their thermoses in the freezing cold. Why are so many people willing to do this in front of every Apple store, but not for a new check-in terminal at the airport, train station, or shopping mall? What’s behind the buzz, and how can we encourage a similar reaction to self-service solutions? Through expert contributions and together with you, we will seek to answer these questions and explore future ways to get there.
