KioWare cruising picture management
By Stephanie Kropkowski, KioWare

If you have ever been one of the millions of people that cruise each year, then you know that cruise photographers do a great job at taking pictures of all of your vacation’s memorable moments. Sometimes it seems that there are so many pictures taken of so many other cruise-goers that it can be difficult to find yourself among the sea of other smiling faces plastered along the corridor walls.

Analytical Design Solutions, Inc. (ADSI), developers of the KioWare Kiosk Software product line, has announced an addition to its software line that makes retrieving these photos much easier. PicsWare is a passenger photo management solution that streamlines the picture-taking, tagging, viewing, printing and purchasing process by integrating a handheld computer and attached card swipe with print-on-demand kiosk stations.

The PicsWare solution allows photographers to take a picture and swipe a passenger’s ID card in order to tag the photo of that passenger. The system integrates a WiFi Camera with a portable handheld computer. The computer has a card swipe, which tags the picture to that passenger and syncs it up to a centralised server. The server then distributes the pictures to print-on-demand kiosk stations, which rotate through the various pictures snapped to attract passengers. Once at the kiosk, passengers can retrieve their photos by simply swiping their ID card at the kiosk or searching by date or event. Passengers can then print their pictures or share them with family and friends online.

PicsWare creates a more efficient revenue generator, while improving the overall passenger experience. The software can provide a rapid Return-On-Investment (ROI), with multiple opportunities to increase revenue, and the ability to gain attention for going green.

This platform eliminates the need for manned POS stations and provides additional advertising space by freeing up the wall space where pictures are typically posted. Passengers can charge the pictures to their room and print on-demand at the kiosks. Supplementary revenue streams become available by offering the pictures online after the cruise, allowing passengers to share with others and giving them a second chance to purchase.

At the same time, this helps to make the ship more environmentally-friendly by eliminating the need to print pictures that are not purchased. The kiosks can offer a ‘greener’ marketing approach by grabbing attention with a secondary monitor or other forms of digital signage, flashing the pictures in front of consumers.

PicsWare’s simplification of the picture-taking, tagging, viewing, printing and purchasing process helps cruise ships to become more environmentally friendly while improving the customer experience and increasing revenue opportunities.

Usability Workshop @ KEX 2012

Handspiel
What can self-service terminals learn from the success of the iPad? The Usability Expert Workshop will explore ways of developing self-service solutions capable of inspiring the same fanatical reaction as Apple’s iconic product. On the 7th of March this year, hundreds of people were out on the streets, waiting to be amongst the first to get their hands on the latest iPad iteration. They had camped out all night with their thermoses in the freezing cold. Why are so many people willing to do this in front of every Apple store, but not for a new check-in terminal at the airport, train station, or shopping mall? What’s behind the buzz, and how can we encourage a similar reaction to self-service solutions? Through expert contributions and together with you, we will seek to answer these questions and explore future ways to get there. KIOSK EUROPE and Handspiel will present the Usability Expert Workshop as part of KIOSK EUROPE EXPO 2012, which runs from 12-13 June. The Usability Workshop will take place on Wednesday, 13th June from 10:30-13:30. Numbers are limited, so secure your place now by booking online at www.kioskeurope-expo.com
