SingTel and Yeahpoint launch the world’s most advanced retail store

SingTel and digital signage and self service specialist Yeahpoint, have brought a groundbreaking multimedia shopping experience to Singapore with the launch of the new SingTel Shop at the Comcentre in the heart of Singapore’s Orchard Road shopping area.  The flagship store is SingTel’s largest, and offers a highly intuitive and interactive digital retail experience like never before.

The centrepiece of the new store is a giant 32-metre circular dual-sided digital display which creates a 360 degree visual experience for the customer. Utilising 20 projectors working in synchronisation, the centrepiece is powered by the yeahWARE CORE9 software platform, and is a result of advanced technology that wasn’t available until now.

The outlet is equipped with an extensive array of embedded interactive digital screens in everything from the store’s tabletops, walls and pylons for a more flexible retail experience. With touchscreens embedded in its exterior glass walls, the shop is effectively open 24/7, maximising consumer reach. Five multi-media zones allow customers to utilise interactive technology, within or outside the store, at anytime.

The store also contains SingTel’s own ‘Teach Centre’ which is a round conference room that uses five motorised screens to give a completely 360 degree experience in a business environment. This innovative approach facilitates more engaging meetings by ensuring that every face at the table can be seen easily and all participants can clearly view presentations from any angle which isn’t possible in traditional boardroom-style meetings.

Other features of the store include an enormous 15-screen video wall for IP TV and promotions and six 42” customised digital interactive tables which allow customers to listen to music, play games, watch mio TV programmes (The company’s Pay-TV service) and try out the latest ‘live’ handsets and accessories in the store.

SingTel Head of Sales, Ms Diana Chen, believes that this evolution in interaction is set to cause a major buzz in the international retail environment: “With the launch of the new SingTel Shop at the Comcentre, we believe that we have set an example for others in the retail industry to follow. We have worked incredibly hard to create something special that will enable us to meet the ever-changing communications and infotainment needs of our customers even better”.

Yeahpoint Chief Executive Officer John Anderson believes that the new SingTel Shop is the best example of the implementation of interactive digital technology into a retail environment available anywhere in the world. “We have been working with SingTel for a number of years now and this store takes our award-winning work with them to another level,” said Mr Anderson. “With some innovations never seen or experienced by consumers before, we expect it to have a massive impact.

“The giant 32-metre circular display is an incredibly complex device that is able to run as four independent images or a complete 360 degree dual sided display. With the ability to have both stills and seamless animations, it truly has to be seen to be believed.”

The two companies won the ‘Best Retail Concept of the Year’ award at the 2009 Singapore Retail Awards for the original SingTel concept store.

“As in 2009 we are expecting to make big waves this year as we set a new worldwide benchmark for retail interactivity,” said Mr Anderson. “We have some other truly innovative projects in the pipeline with some major international brands so expect some big announcements form Yeahpoint in the coming months.”

Usability Workshop @ KEX 2012

Handspiel
What can self-service terminals learn from the success of the iPad? The Usability Expert Workshop will explore ways of developing self-service solutions capable of inspiring the same fanatical reaction as Apple’s iconic product. On the 7th of March this year, hundreds of people were out on the streets, waiting to be amongst the first to get their hands on the latest iPad iteration. They had camped out all night with their thermoses in the freezing cold. Why are so many people willing to do this in front of every Apple store, but not for a new check-in terminal at the airport, train station, or shopping mall? What’s behind the buzz, and how can we encourage a similar reaction to self-service solutions? Through expert contributions and together with you, we will seek to answer these questions and explore future ways to get there. KIOSK EUROPE and Handspiel will present the Usability Expert Workshop as part of KIOSK EUROPE EXPO 2012, which runs from 12-13 June. The Usability Workshop will take place on Wednesday, 13th June from 10:30-13:30. Numbers are limited, so secure your place now by booking online at www.kioskeurope-expo.com
