Intellident has selected the TUP900 kiosk printer from Star Micronics for use in its ‘smartServe’ self-service library kiosk solution. This kiosk allows library customers to issue, renew and return items, as well as check their account status and pay any fees using a full range of payment facilities integrated into the kiosk. The kiosk is in use in public, academic and private libraries in the UK, France and the Netherlands.

The TUP900 is used to print a full receipt for the customer, should they require one following the transaction. In order to make customers feel more confident using the kiosk, intuitive features have been incorporated, such as the receipt output slot which features a flashing light to direct the user to take their receipt when it is ready.

The main issues for consideration in the choice of printer for Intellident, aside from cost, were ease of use, form factor and reliability. The kiosk is designed to operate 24/7, so the printer had to be very reliable.
