Mitsubishi's New Photokiosks
The name Mitsubishi comes from the Japanese words ‘Mitsu’ meaning three and ‘bishi’, meaning diamond, and the company has now launched three little kiosk diamonds for the burgeoning digital photography market.
As a pioneer in Dye Sublimation Photo printing technology, Mitsubishi Electric has been producing photo printers since the 1980’s, and leading the market in networking, multimedia and on-demand printing solutions - all of which has culminated in the development of their new Digital Photo System, which the company claims ‘will bring the future of photo finishing to the customer.’The huge commercial success of digital cameras and mobile phones with embedded cameras is leading more and more users to go to the photography shop to have the photos from their memory cards or CDs printed. To meet this growing demand, Mitsubishi has launched a complete new product line-up based on its Digital Photo and Digital Kiosk concepts. The KIOSK and CLICK terminals offer an easy-to-use photographic and multimedia service for printing digital camera and mobile phone photographs, recording CDs or DVDs, or retouching and editing pictures at the terminal. All services can be paid for autonomously, by prepaid card issued in the establishment or by normal credit card.
Following the enormous success of its predecessor, the DPS CLICK system, Mitsubishi’s CLICK 5000 has been launched as the ultimate new digital processing solution, fully adapted to the needs of today’s photography market. Aimed at retailers that want to offer instant digital photo processing services that can also make a profit from day one, the CLICK 5000 provides high revenue in an expandable solution that can be tailor-made to meet specific retailer requirements. It accepts all major digital media cards, CDs and DVDs and provides basic digital photography services with professional results in seconds.
A Cut Above
The Kiosk 7000 system features a large, user-friendly touch screen interface, while still remaining exceptionally compact - and so can be sited on the counter top or mounted on an optional pedestal base. The terminal also incorporates a wide range of versatile performance features: including multiple printer hook-ups, Bluetooth wireless technology compatibility, several print size options and index printing. The 7000 also features outstanding image quality, as it is available integrated with up to five high-performance Mitsubishi dye sublimation printers for fast, low-maintenance and efficient service. The unit is connectable to Mitsubishi printers CP9550DW-S and CP3020DE and has a LAN function for connection to CLICK 5000 with Mitsubishi protocols in order to increase the production of the shop. Payment is via pre-paid card, or the machine will produce a sales receipt that customers take to the counter to pay for their prints.
The KIOSK 9000 comprises an easy-to-use touch screen for customers and digital inputs for any current or future format. It has a Bluetooth interface to access numerous services from the mobile telephone, and a CD/DVD recorder for saving images from the digital camera to CD and then printing them. Aside from the features of the CLICK 5000 and KIOSK 7000, the terminal also offers multimedia services for mobile phones, such as logotype, melody, image and java game downloads. Customers can select Mitsubishi’s exclusive 11.5 x 15 ‘full image’ digital format for their prints and create a web album to share with relatives and friends. Web album photos can be printed at any KIOSK.
Mitsubishi said that, although there are now numerous digital development kiosks on the market, none can offer the range of services that their Kiosk range can. Besides the classic digital development services in multiple formats, CD recording and ticket printer, autonomous payment media and bluetooth connection, Mitsubishi has implemented the very latest technology, available only for their Kiosk line, including advances in multimedia messages and web albums. The company is confident of European and global success with the new equipment, which promises greatly extended customer service with rapid return on investment and high profitability.
