Reducing costs and environmental damage are key priorities today and Star has responded by offering a unique and diverse range of printers to help achieve these goals.

With over thirty years experience in the kiosk industry, the company specialises in tailoring solutions to meet the individual needs of customers, offering them a wide range of both flexible packaged and open frame printing solutions for kiosks.  Certain system integrators have typically shied away from incorporating packaged printers into kiosks but this type of printer is now no longer just the realm of the retail outlet as it is increasingly being integrated into low volume, high value kiosk applications.

There are a number of benefits but it is primarily the simplicity and ease of use of this type of printer that is driving its greater use today.  Not only is the packaged printer easier to install, service, maintain and replace but it also offers the same level of performance and reliability today as an open frame printer. Beyond this, the packaged printer can offer a wealth of additional features in terms of software tools and it is the advanced functionality of such printers that adds real value to a kiosk.

Building on its established range, the company has recently developed a number of new and interesting hardware and software innovations for the kiosk industry.

Major hotel chains including Premier Inn in the UK are benefiting from features such as a scalable raster driver which is available on both open frame and packaged kiosk printers.  Whether using standard 80mm wide paper or 112mm wide paper the documents created will be printed exactly as they are displayed making this ideal for printing from any application that is designed for A4 printers, such as Internet output.

By replacing an A4 laser printer, significant cost savings in terms of consumable costs can be achieved as well as environmental benefits through reduced CO2 emissions and reduced power consumption.

Simon Martin, Director & General Manager, Star Micronics EMEA, comments, “Kiosk London Expo 2011 provides Star with an excellent platform to demonstrate its wide range of intelligent kiosk printing solutions.  With over thirty years experience in the kiosk industry and an unrivalled reputation for reliability, Star offers the very latest in POS printer design and technology to suit a wide variety of environments and budgets.”

Usability Workshop @ KEX 2012

Handspiel
What can self-service terminals learn from the success of the iPad? The Usability Expert Workshop will explore ways of developing self-service solutions capable of inspiring the same fanatical reaction as Apple’s iconic product. On the 7th of March this year, hundreds of people were out on the streets, waiting to be amongst the first to get their hands on the latest iPad iteration. They had camped out all night with their thermoses in the freezing cold. Why are so many people willing to do this in front of every Apple store, but not for a new check-in terminal at the airport, train station, or shopping mall? What’s behind the buzz, and how can we encourage a similar reaction to self-service solutions? Through expert contributions and together with you, we will seek to answer these questions and explore future ways to get there. KIOSK EUROPE and Handspiel will present the Usability Expert Workshop as part of KIOSK EUROPE EXPO 2012, which runs from 12-13 June. The Usability Workshop will take place on Wednesday, 13th June from 10:30-13:30. Numbers are limited, so secure your place now by booking online at www.kioskeurope-expo.com
